World Surf Championship in Peniche: MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2026
The world’s best surfers return to Supertubos from 16 to 25 October 2026. Here is how to follow the contest and make the most of your stay in Peniche.
The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, a World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour event, returns to Supertubos beach in Peniche with a waiting period from 16 to 25 October 2026. For those ten days, the world’s best surfers compete just minutes from our homes.
A decisive stop
In 2026 the WSL goes back to deciding the world title on points accumulated over the season, with the final event returning to Pipeline, Hawaii. Peniche is stop 10 of 13, at a point in the season when every heat counts in the title race.
What the “waiting period” means
The dates are not a fixed schedule. Every morning the organisers decide whether the contest runs that day, depending on waves and wind. Before you head out, check the WSL website or app, where you can also watch the heats live.
Why Supertubos
Supertubos is one of Europe’s best-known beach breaks: fast, hollow waves that barrel regularly, hence the name. The Peniche peninsula has beaches facing north, west and south, which makes it one of the most complete surf destinations in Portugal.
Tips for watching
- Arrive early. On contest days parking near Supertubos is hard to find. Walking or cycling from the centre of Peniche is usually quicker.
- Bring layers. October mornings on the beach can be cool and windy.
- Water, sunscreen and something to sit on in the sand.
- On lay days, visit Peniche Fortress, stroll around Baleal or head to Óbidos.
Where to stay
During the event Peniche fills up with teams, media and surf fans from all over the world, and accommodation books up early. Take a look at our homes in Peniche and Consolação and send your booking request now.
